The Corporate Church
Monologue Version

Biblical Reference: Galations 6:7-10

Approximate Running Time: 15-20 minutes

Synopsis

Sometimes I think that we need to grab some people who attend church and shake them while shouting, "Did you see what you just did? How come you don't do things this way?" But of course, that would be wrong. Sometimes I think that we should use drama to grab some people's attention and say "Did you see what you just did? How come you don't do things this way?" Subtly, of course. Other times I think that we shouldn't be all that subtle.

I've been active in every church that I've attended since I was young. Our family attended Sunday School, evening services, youth group, boy and girls clubs, Bible studies, small group activities, fun outings sponsored by the churches, as well as being involved in ministries that the church sponsored such as work days and nursing home visiting days, etc. I've never understood how a born-again, Bible-believing Christian, who is growing closer to the Lord can possibly come to church once a week and not take part in the work of the Lord that the church is engaged in. I'm drawn to it. Why aren't others?

The Corporate Church is a monologue that can grab members of your congregation and shake them up a bit. I can even envision problems that this monologue could cause within your church because of the forward manner in which I present my thesis. This monologue asks the questions: "Are you involved in the ministries your church?" "If not, why not?" And, "What would you do if our church instituted a policy where involvement within the ministries of the church was mandatory?"

The satiric atmosphere surrounding this monologue will give the audience a hint that this isn't real life that's going on up on the stage, but I'm sure you'll run the risk of having some people wonder if this is a new church policy that you're presenting to them.

I encourage you to read through this monologue while keeping in mind how you perceive your congregation would react to its presentation within your church and the results that could come of it.
