Biblical Reference: The story of the death and resurrection of Christ. Approximate Running Time: 15 minutes Synopsis I Believed in Him is the second of the Easter monologue trilogy. I Believed in Him is a story told from the perspective of someone who was a follower of Christ just after he has learned of the crucifixion. This monologue uses the powerful emotions evoked by Crucify Him! and allows the audience to think through what their own reaction would be to the death of the one who promised life - before He proved His words were true by raising from the dead. This monologue conveys the hopelessness that the believer has because he cannot see what is to come. He relates miracles from the life of Christ and expresses what those miracles meant to him. He stands before the audience and explains to them the evidence that he used to decide to follow Christ and how he came to that decision. Then he shares his dismay at the sudden capture and death of the man who promised life and how that has impacted his faith in Him. The ending of the monologue leaves the audience with the realization that we would have nothing to believe in if it wasn't for the fact that Christ rose from the dead. All of His works, actions, and predictions are for naught if He didn't defy the laws of nature and return from Hell triumphant over death and the grave. As the character in this monologue leaves the stage after speaking the words, "I believed in Him. Yes I believed in Him - yesterday. But that was yesterday. Today...well...what is left to believe in?" the audience is left with a feeling of uncertainty. What is there to believe in if the story ends here? Nothing. But, praise the Lord! There is more to the story. He is Risen! is the triumphant conclusion of this trilogy. Order This Play
