Synopsis

Our society is bombarded with advertising that presents its product as the best thing ever invented. We have all purchased products under the pretense that the product will actually do the things that the manufacturer purports only to find that there is no way we can possibly use the product for anything less than a paper weight. Because of the lack of 'faith' that we have in the claims of manufacturers they have to load their advertising with money back guarantees and other gimmicks to get us to give their product a try. Our level of expectation on new products that are just coming onto the market continues to diminish because of the number of times we have purchased a life changing product only to find that the product breaks, can't meet up to the claims, or is just too difficult to use. Our attitude of cinisicm regarding any kind of a deal has clouded our ability to believe that God's promises, claims, and plans for our lives have to be too good to be true. Behind every claim that God makes we're looking for the "catch," wating for things to fall apart, or we're just too afriad to trust Him in the first place.

This play uses this pretense to set the stage for the promises (or guarantees) that the Lord gives to us. I draw a contrast to the claims of the advertisers to the promises of the Lord to show that God doesn't have to sell us on a money back guarantee because His promises never fail. Once we get past our initial wall of distrust and scepticism that has been casued by our society we are able to enjoy the richness of the promises that God has in store for us.
