Hold On For Dear Life

Biblical Reference: Matthew 14:22-33

Approximate Running Time: 15 minutes

Cast of Characters: 5 Either Sex

Synopsis

This play was written to be performed within the "By the Sea" VBS program that will soon be available through Acts of Light. However, if you have a junior church program, or if you have many unchurched participants in your VBS program, there is no reason why you couldn't use this play for both VBS and a regular church service.

The five plays in this series are, "Can You Still Forgive Me?," "Get Off That Cross," "Hold On For Dear Life," "How Big Is An Ark, Anyway?, " and "What Are You Afraid Of?"

This play works great as "bookends" to a sermon. It is written as a lead in and follow up to a sermon, or scripture reading, or even the taking of the offering, or the singing of a hymn.

This is the last in a series of five plays which use the same characters who progress in their spirituality over the course of a VBS program. The characters are shown each morning before they enter VBS and each afternoon as they leave VBS. There is a break in the middle where the lesson is to occur.

This play uses the text of Peter walking on the water in an attempt to show how we need not be perfect in order to be Christians. I use a new convert, Butch, to emphasize how we all make mistakes. I also attempt to express that we need to pull together as a body of believers in order to lift one another up when we need the encouragement.
