Monologues

Monologues are my favorite genre of writing to work on. There's nothing like standing before a group of people and performing on your own. There's nobody to mess up their lines, there's nobody to forget a cue, there's nobody but yourself to blame for a messy performance.

Of course, there are what some people may call downsides to performing a monologue. There isn't anyone to help out when you forget lines, there isn't anyone to carry you through a scene you're unsure of, there isn't any dialogue to remind you of your lines, and there isn't anyone else to blame for a bad performance.

But I love the challenge.

I have written a few monologues which vary in intensity and duration. The first monologue I wrote was Joseph's Story, an intense narration of how Joseph may have felt as he looked back on the life that Jesus lived. This is a powerful monologue which is perfect for a Father's Day performance, but yet can be performed for other occasions as well.

There are three monologues which detail how three different Romans may have felt at the time of Christ's death: Crucify Him!, and I Believed in Him. He is Risen! is the third in this trio of Easter monologues. These three powerful monologues are great if they are performed in subsequent weeks or even in three different parts of the same service.

I am open to customizing a monologue for you if it works out. Monologues are much more difficult to write than typical plays because the monologue must convey a consistent character with a consistent message. These monologues are so full of meaning that a character that isn't believable ruins the entire intent of the monologue.

Through these monologues you will be able to bring your congregation along with you to the scene of the Bible story. Show them what it was like to take part in the stories of the Bible. Allow them to see what it would have been like to be there as Christ walked the earth, through their own eyes. These monologues can be a powerful tool in bringing the application of your sermons home to your congregation or youth group.

New monologues should be available every few months, or so. Add your E-mail address to the Acts of Light Mailing List and you will be notified of new postings as soon as they become available.
