All in a Mom's Day's Work

Biblical Reference: Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, Exodus 20:12

Approximate Running Time: 15-20 minutes

Cast of Characters: 1 Male & 2 Females

Synopsis

Two teenage kids want to give their Mom a day off as a gift for Mother's Day. They ask her to compile a list of the things that she typically does during an average Friday. She compiles a list and the two attempt to split up the tasks so that they can complete a single day's worth of work for their Mother.

Rather than help her out they end up messing up everything that is on the list. In the third scene Josh, the teenage boy, is attempting to fold laundry. It is obvious to everyone in the audience that he has never folded laundry before. He takes one of the socks off of the pile and weeds through all of the remaining clothes until he finds the match, knocking a lot of clothes down off of the table in the process. The visual humor, along with the humorous way the kids list the errors of the day, make this an enjoyable play for the audience.

The humor paves way for the moral of the story. The mother points out that her having to help them out of trouble all through the day was more like having the kids help her out with her work. She enjoys having the help, remembering how the kids used to help her out when they were younger, and the three pledge to make sure that they work together in the future.
