A Tiger in a Cage

Biblical Reference: John 17:14

Approximate Running Time: 5-10 minutes

Cast of Characters: 3 Either Sex

Synopsis

Have you ever known someone who thought that becoming a Christian meant that they would have to give up all of the fun in life and live a life full of drudgery and service to a higher deity? Have you ever known someone who was not willing to learn more about God because they held this concept?

This play attempts to change the audience's point of view on the above issue. Rather than look at all of the 'fun' worldly things that we have to sacrifice as Christians, we should look at the way that God desires to protect us from the whiles of Satan. He knows that we are much better off safely tucked under His wings than to be out in the world doing worldly things where Satan can have his way with us.

I have used the analogy of a tiger in a cage to make a visual link between how the caged animal feels and how we as Christians sometimes feel. We've all been to a zoo and we've all stood before a tiger cage and we've all watched the way that the tiger paces back and forth and back and forth with nothing at all to do. We can all relate to the way that the tiger must feel, but we seem to forget that the tiger has it pretty good. Three square meals, a medical staff at his side, protection from the world, and the fact that he is helping out a lot of people by just being there for them to look at.

If you agree with the above statement, then this play is for you. If you would tend to say that the animal deserves his freedom, or that we deserve our freedom to sin at will, then this play isn't for you. I encourage you to read through it and determine if the message is a timely message that your congregation needs to hear.
