Christmas Bells
Biblical Reference: The Christmas story. Approximate Running Time: 45-60 minutes Cast of Characters: 2 Males, 1 Female, 3 Either Sex There is also a Choir and Shoppers. Synopsis This is a full hour of plays, readings, and hymns written to emphasize the importance of setting time aside to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. I am really excited about the potential for this play. This is the first "full length" program that I have written for Christmas-time. It involves plays, readings, and hymns to tie together a central theme on Christmas. Bob is a Christian man who is concerned about the fact that most people have forgotten what Christmas is all about. He is on a personal mission to convince people that they need to be in church on Christmas Eve to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ - the real meaning of the Christmas season. Within the series of plays we see him calling up a former member of his church who hasn't been around for a while to invite him and his family to church. We see him go door to door in his neighborhood to invite his neighbors to the service. We see him volunteering his time with the Salvation Army - at which time he is totally ignored. He finally makes his way to church on Christmas Eve only to find that he is the only one there. The relevant passages of scripture that present the Christmas story that we all know so well are read at different times during the presentation. Traditional hymns accentuate the action of the plays. A final original reading calls the audience to ensure that they don't neglect the Savior on His birthday. This series of plays, readings, and hymns can be used in a number of ways during the Christmas season. They can be broken up into segments and performed over a period of weeks, they can be broken up and certain segments can be left out, leaving the rest undone, or the entire presentation can be done during a morning or evening service. I would have to recommend that you read through this play. Read the hymns as they would be presented. Read the words and visualize the stage. This play provides a strong emotional presentation at a season that can be highly emotional for some. It will compel all to remember the real reason for the season - the birth of Jesus Christ.
