Voices of Christmas Biblical Reference: The Christmas story. Approximate Running Time: 45-60 minutes Cast of Characters: 1 Male, 1 Female, 7 Either Synopsis This is the third Christmas production that I have written and it is the first that I have produced within my own church. We often forget that there were many different people who experienced the birth of Christ and their story is much more involved than the small amount of time they spent standing in the manger worshipping the newborn King. This play allows the characters of the biblical story of Christ's birth to tell their own rendition of what occurred on that special night. Your audience will hear from Mary, Joseph, the wisemen, and the shepherds; those who were there the night the savior was born. The play is set as the nativity scene that traditionally denotes the birthplace of Jesus Christ. Each of the members in the play are arranged as if they were part of a nativity scene. They are frozen in place until it is their turn to tell their story, then they are 'brought to life' to tell the audience their role in the story, what they were expecting, what they actually found, and how it impacted them for the rest of their lives. This powerful play will cause the members of your congregation to examine their role in the story of the birth of Christ, what they had believed about the age old story, what they were expecting to get out of the program, what they actually found, and they will leave thinking of how it all impacted their faith in the Lord and it will increase their appreciation for what He did by sending His Son to be born here on earth. At the end of the play a narrator ties the birth of Christ to his death and resurrection, and causes the members of the audience to examine where they stand regarding their relationship with Christ. This play had a powerful impact on our congregation and I know it can have a similar impact on yours.
